Malkangiri Police achieved a major breakthrough in anti-Maoist operations after the District Voluntary Force (DVF) recovered a large cache of arms, explosives, and communication equipment near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border.
The DVF team conducted the search in the forest areas of Gunthabada and Kadamguda under Kalimela police limits, acting on intelligence from surrendered Maoists. Officers unearthed the Maoist dump around 6:30 am and seized two Self Loading Rifles, two country-made pistols, one US-made pistol, a .303 barrel, two Improvised Explosive Devices weighing 2 kg and 5 kg, a claymore mine, four BGL cells, five cartridges, and seven walkie-talkies.
Police also recovered 45 pen drives, a hard disk, batteries, chargers, and materials used for making explosives. Investigators believe the cache belonged to the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and was meant to target civilians and security forces.
Officials confirmed that Malkangiri became Maoist-free by March 31, 2026, following sustained operations. Between January 2025 and March 2026, two Maoists were arrested, and 23 surrendered. This marks the third major Maoist dump recovered in the district this month, following seizures under Mathili and Podia police limits earlier in June.
Security forces continue combing operations to prevent any resurgence of Maoist activity in the region.
