In a major crackdown under the Nasha Mukt Odisha campaign, police in Malkangiri district dismantled a mobile hash oil manufacturing unit in the Chitrakonda area.
The operation led to the seizure of large quantities of precursor chemicals and cannabis products, preventing a potential narcotics network from taking root in the region.
High-Value Seizure and Equipment Confiscated
According to officials, the raid resulted in the recovery of:
- 800 litres of precursor chemicals, capable of producing hashish oil worth approximately ₹100 crore
- 50 kg of ganja
- 2 litres of hashish oil
- A fully equipped mobile manufacturing unit, including extraction machinery
Police also seized a vehicle with a falsified registration number that was being used to transport the illegal setup.
Intelligence-Based Operation in Chitrakonda
The operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs indicating the presence of a mobile drug manufacturing unit in the Chitrakonda region. Due to sustained pressure from law enforcement, the suspected syndicate had been frequently relocating the unit to evade detection.
On May 3, 2026, a police team led by SDPO Pradosh Pradhan intercepted the vehicle near Essar Chhak under Chitrakonda Police Station limits, along the route towards Sileru. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Malkangiri.
Driver Escapes, Manhunt Underway
While the police successfully seized the vehicle and materials, the driver managed to escape into the nearby dense forest terrain. Authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the accused.
Interstate Drug Network Suspected
Preliminary findings suggest that a well-organised interstate syndicate was planning to establish a hashish oil manufacturing unit in the area. Continuous police surveillance is believed to have disrupted their plans.
Multiple special teams have been formed to:
- Track down the absconding driver
- Identify other members of the syndicate
- Verify the vehicle’s origins
- Investigate interstate supply chains and distribution links
