A major scare during the Indian Premier League 2026 clash between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings ended on a reassuring note as Lungi Ngidi confirmed he is recovering well after suffering a frightening neck injury on the field.
Ngidi Breaks Silence After Hospital Visit
The South African fast bowler took to social media to calm fans following the incident. Sharing a brief update, Ngidi said he is “all good,” thanking supporters for their concern after the injury scare.
He had earlier been rushed to hospital after collapsing awkwardly while attempting a catch, sparking immediate concern among players and spectators.
What Happened During the Match?
The incident occurred at the Arun Jaitley Stadium when Ngidi, stationed at mid-off, attempted to chase a mistimed shot. Misjudging the ball, he lost balance and fell heavily, landing on his neck and head.
The impact left him motionless for several minutes, forcing medical staff to rush onto the field. Play was halted for nearly 15–20 minutes as doctors assessed his condition.
Emergency Response and ‘Green Corridor’
Following on-field treatment, Ngidi was fitted with a neck brace and stretchered off the ground. In a swift emergency response, Delhi Police created a “green corridor” to transport him quickly to a nearby hospital.
Reports indicate he reached the medical facility in just 11 minutes, where he was treated for neck pain and a headache before being discharged later the same day.
Players and Officials React
The incident visibly shook teammates and opponents alike. Players such as Tristan Stubbs and David Miller were seen concerned on the field, while Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting personally checked on Ngidi during the stoppage.
Match Result Overshadowed by Injury Scare
Despite the dramatic moment, the match itself turned into a historic thriller. KL Rahul’s sensational unbeaten 152 powered Delhi Capitals to a massive total, but Punjab Kings pulled off a record chase.
Led by captain Shreyas Iyer, PBKS chased down the 265-run target with six wickets in hand, marking one of the greatest run chases in T20 history.
