The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the low‑pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal off West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts persisted at 0830 hrs IST today.
According to the forecast, the system is likely to become a well‑marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is expected to concentrate into a depression and move northwestwards across West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts during the subsequent 24 hours.
Meteorologists said the intensification could trigger widespread rainfall and squally winds across coastal and adjoining districts. The IMD has advised residents in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas to remain alert as the system strengthens.
Authorities in West Bengal, Odisha, and Bangladesh are monitoring the evolving situation closely, with preparations underway to mitigate possible flooding and waterlogging.
