Lionel Messi’s much-awaited India Tour 2025 began in Kolkata with chaos at the Salt Lake Stadium.
The Argentine superstar appeared for only ten minutes before leaving, and his sudden exit sparked anger among thousands of fans who had paid a minimum of Rs 4,000 for tickets.
As frustration grew, spectators threw bottles and broke barricades. Messi arrived while a “legendary match” was underway, but the crowd’s attention shifted instantly toward him. Soon after, his early departure triggered unrest, and officials have yet to release a statement on the incident.
Despite the turmoil in Kolkata, Messi’s tour schedule remains packed. Later on Saturday, Hyderabad will host him at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, where he is set to play in an exhibition match for five minutes.
On December 14, Mumbai will stage the Padel GOAT Cup at Brabourne Stadium. The event will be followed by a celebrity football match featuring Bollywood stars. Shah Rukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar are expected to attend the marquee occasion.
In addition, Messi’s itinerary includes a charity fashion show, an auction of Argentina’s 2022 World Cup memorabilia, and a Spanish musical evening led by Luis Suárez.
Finally, the 38-year-old icon will conclude his India tour in New Delhi on December 15 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where several Indian cricketers are expected to join the celebrations.
