With global football icon Lionel Messi arriving in Delhi on Monday, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a detailed advisory announcing traffic diversions and restrictions in areas surrounding the Arun Jaitley Stadium to manage crowd movement and ensure smooth traffic flow.
Messi is set to begin the final leg of his India tour in the national capital, where he will attend a special event at the stadium. Reports had earlier suggested a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but the Prime Minister departed on a three-nation foreign visit earlier on Monday.
Traffic Diversions and Restrictions
According to the advisory issued on Sunday, traffic diversions will be in effect on:
-
Bahadurshah Zafar Marg
-
Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (JLN Marg)
Additionally, heavy vehicles will not be permitted on the following stretches:
-
From Daryaganj to Bahadurshah Zafar Marg
-
From Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road
The traffic police have also urged commuters to avoid JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road, and Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, citing heavy movement due to Messi’s visit.
Parking Prohibited Near Stadium
Parking has been strictly prohibited around the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the duration of the event. Authorities warned that illegal parking will invite towing and fines.
Members of the public have been advised to use Metro services and public buses to avoid congestion in central Delhi.
Main Event at Arun Jaitley Stadium
The highlight of Messi’s Delhi visit will be a special programme at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the Argentine legend is scheduled to felicitate teams from Minerva Academy, which recently won three youth football trophies.
Delhi Police have also shared designated entry and exit points for ticket holders to ensure orderly access to the venue.
Advisory for Commuters
Commuters traveling through central Delhi are advised to:
-
Plan journeys in advance
-
Follow traffic updates issued by Delhi Police
-
Avoid restricted roads during peak hours
Authorities said traffic arrangements will be dynamically managed based on ground conditions.
