As the monsoon trough continues to stretch across central India into the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of yellow warnings for Odisha, forecasting light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across the state for the next seven days.
According to the midday bulletin released by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, and Malkangiri are expected to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph. The warnings also extend to coastal and interior regions such as Cuttack, Puri, Bhadrak, and Rayagada, where thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur intermittently.
The bulletin highlights that Bhawanipatna recorded the highest temperature at 34.8°C, while Phulbani saw the lowest at 20.5°C. Bhubaneswar is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with chances of rain or thundershowers, with temperatures hovering around 33°C and 26°C respectively.
Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to safeguard crops and livestock, especially in districts under thunderstorm alerts. The IMD recommends using the MAUSAM, Meghdoot, and Damini apps for real-time updates and lightning warnings.
With rainfall expected to intensify midweek, residents are urged to stay informed and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
