A tragic incident occurred in Talapadar village under Chalanguda Gram Panchayat of Malkangiri Sadar Block, where a 45-year-old farmer, Unga Kartami, lost his life due to a lightning strike while working on his farmland.
According to reports, Unga had gone to his field accompanied by his wife Gangi and son Deba when heavy rain and thunderstorm struck the area. Seeking shelter, the family moved toward a nearby hut. Unfortunately, a powerful lightning bolt struck the spot, killing Unga instantly. His wife and son sustained minor injuries in the incident.
Local villagers rushed to the scene and recovered Unga’s body, bringing it back to his residence. The sudden death has cast a shadow of fear and grief across the region. A case has been registered at Malkangiri Police Station, and the police have seized the body for post-mortem before handing it over to the family.
Authorities are urging residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open fields during adverse weather conditions.
