In yet another case of suicide, a lawyer, identified as Deepak Kumar Sahu, allegedly set himself ablaze on Thursday evening in Bhubaneswar’s Pandara area under the Mancheswar police station limits.
Pouring petrol over his body, Sahu succumbed to severe burns at the scene, leaving the local community in shock and raising questions about the circumstances leading to this extreme act.
According to Mancheswar police station officer Mrutyunjay Swain, the incident occurred on the rooftop of Sahu’s residence. The police promptly recovered the body and sent it to Capital Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest that familial disputes may have driven Sahu to take this drastic step, though the exact reasons remain unclear. No suicide note was found at the scene, adding to the mystery surrounding the tragedy.
Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Biswaranjan Senapati visited the site and initiated inquiries. The police are currently questioning Sahu’s family members and tenants living on the lower floors of the house to piece together the events leading up to the incident. Authorities are also probing how such an act went unnoticed by those nearby, as the incident took place on the rooftop, raising significant concerns.
This tragic event has spotlighted the growing trend of suicides in Odisha’s capital, prompting discussions about mental health and societal pressures.
