A major landslide between Jarti and Maliguda railway stations on the crucial KK Line in Koraput district has brought train services to a standstill.
The landslide, triggered by heavy monsoon showers, caused soil and boulders to tumble onto the railway tracks, blocking the route entirely. According to railway sources, ten electric poles have also collapsed due to the debris, posing added challenges for restoration.
As a result, several key trains have been stranded at various stations:
- Hirakhand Express
- Samaleswari Express
- Kirandul Passenger Train
Train traffic between Koraput and Jeypore, as well as Jagdalpur, has been completely suspended, affecting hundreds of passengers and halting movement in the tribal hinterlands of Odisha.
Railway officials have initiated cleanup and repair operations at the affected site, although no timeline has been confirmed for the restoration of services. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported at the time of filing this report.
This incident marks another reminder of the vulnerability of railway infrastructure in landslide-prone hilly regions, particularly during the monsoon season. Passengers are advised to check the latest updates from Indian Railways before planning their journeys along the route.
