Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday called upon the state’s youth to take leadership in transforming agriculture into a dynamic agri-industry movement, highlighting the vast opportunities in modern farming, technology, processing, packaging, marketing and exports.
Speaking as the chief guest at the closing session of “Krushi Odisha-2026” held at Biju Patnaik Play Ground, Baramunda, Bhubaneswar, the Governor emphasised that modern agriculture has progressed far beyond traditional practices and offers immense potential to become future-ready and sustainable through agri-industry integration.
He spotlighted opportunities in post-harvest management, value addition and food processing, noting that these can significantly reduce crop losses, boost farmers’ income, generate rural employment and strengthen the food system. The Governor pointed out that initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Agri-Entrepreneurship Scheme enable young people to explore these avenues. “With innovation and energy, the youth can turn agriculture into a profitable sector,” he said.
Dr. Kambhampati praised the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment for successfully organising the event, which served as a meaningful platform for discussion, innovation and collaboration. Describing agriculture as the backbone of India — supporting over half the population — he said it sustains rural life, strengthens society and supports industry.

Acknowledging Odisha’s agricultural strength, the Governor commended farmers in both coastal plains and hilly regions, calling them guardians of the land and nature. He highlighted challenges posed by climate change, soil degradation and natural disasters, and advocated adoption of climate-resilient diversified farming systems.
He also appreciated various government initiatives, including digital farmer registration, income support schemes, promotion of organic and millet cultivation, horticulture development, farm mechanisation, micro-irrigation, cold storage facilities and export incentives. The Governor called for collective efforts to make agriculture more productive, inclusive and profitable, describing it as a source of pride, prosperity and progress for Odisha and India.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Minister for Fisheries, Animal Resources Development and MSME Gokulananda Mallik also addressed the event. Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Arabinda Kumar Padhee delivered the welcome address, while Director of Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman proposed the vote of thanks.
