The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for Koraput district following forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall.
In response, the Waltair Railway Division has announced significant disruptions to train services to ensure passenger safety.
Two passenger trains operating on the Visakhapatnam–Koraput–Kirandul route have been cancelled for two days. Additionally, the routes of two night express trains have been diverted. The Visakhapatnam–Kirandul Night Express will now operate via Kothavalasa, Vizianagaram, Rayagada, and Koraput in both directions.
The Visakhapatnam–Kirandul passenger train departing from Visakhapatnam will return from Araku station, while the Kirandul-bound passenger train will operate only up to Koraput. These changes are effective from tomorrow, as per official communication from the Waltair Railway Division.
According to the district weather department, Koraput recorded 564.6 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Kotpad block receiving the highest at 133.0 mm. The district emergency department has instructed all Block Development Officers (BDOs) to remain alert and monitor landslide-prone areas. Preparations are underway to tackle any adverse situations that may arise.
