Ahmedabad: Eoin Morgan’s Kolkata Knight Riders beat KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings by 5 wickets at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.
After the bowlers put up a splendid show to restrict PBKS to 123 for 9, KKR scored the runs in 16.4 overs with skipper Morgan remaining unbeaten on 47 off 40 balls. For KKR, it was a collective bowling performance with Prasidh Krishna (3/30), Pat Cummins (2/31) and Sunil Narine (2/22) choked Punjab after the young Shivam Mavi (1/13) bowled an astounding 15 dot balls in his four over spell.
For Punjab, opener Mayank Agarwal top-scored with a painstaking 31 off 34 balls but Chris Jordan’s 30 off 18 balls took them past 120-run mark.
Prasidh Krishna has best figures of 3 for 30 while Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine also chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
While chasing, KKR were in trouble at 17 for 3 before Rahul Tripathi (41 off 32 balls) and skipper Eoin Morgan (47 not out off 40 balls) put them on course with a 66-run fourth-wicket stand.
KKR has now ended their four-match losing streak and are placed fifth with four points from six games. PBKS slipped a notch behind and are now at sixth place.
