KL Rahul rejects interaction with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and son after DC win

In what was more than just a cricket match, KL Rahul scripted an emotional and impactful return to Lucknow, the city where he once captained the Super Giants, with an unbeaten half-century that powered Delhi Capitals to a convincing win.

Playing against his former franchise for the first time since a reported fallout with owner Sanjiv Goenka, Rahul let his bat do all the talking—and noticeably nothing else.

Rahul, who was not part of the playing XI during the earlier clash between Delhi and Lucknow in Vizag this season, made his presence count this time. The experienced right-hander anchored the chase of 160 with a mature 57* off 42 deliveries, helping Delhi wrap up the win with 13 balls to spare. With this innings, he also etched his name in history, becoming the fastest player to reach 5000 IPL runs in just 130 innings—surpassing David Warner’s previous record of 135 innings.

However, the biggest talking point came after the match—not with the bat, but with body language. In a widely shared post-match moment, Sanjiv Goenka and his son Shashwat approached Rahul to congratulate him, but the Delhi batter cold-shouldered both. Despite Goenka’s praise and efforts to engage, Rahul simply walked away, refusing any interaction—a gesture that quickly trended across social media platforms.

Their strained relationship dates back to before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Goenka had taken a subtle dig at Rahul during a Star Sports interview, emphasizing his desire to build a team around players who “prioritize team goals over personal ambitions.” Rahul, on the same platform in a separate interview, had responded diplomatically, stating he wanted to start afresh with a team that allowed more freedom and a lighter atmosphere.

The Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, continued their strong campaign. The victory over LSG marked their sixth win in eight matches this season—their best start since 2021, when they also reached the Play-Offs. Delhi bounced back well from a defeat against Gujarat Titans, and with this win, they completed a season double over Lucknow.

With an identical win-loss record as table-toppers Gujarat Titans, Delhi currently sit second on the points table, separated only by net run rate. Their next challenge will be a high-voltage clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home on April 27.

As for KL Rahul, his bat has spoken louder than any interview—and in Lucknow, silence was louder than words.
