Playing against his former franchise for the first time since a reported fallout with owner Sanjiv Goenka, Rahul let his bat do all the talking—and noticeably nothing else.
Rahul, who was not part of the playing XI during the earlier clash between Delhi and Lucknow in Vizag this season, made his presence count this time. The experienced right-hander anchored the chase of 160 with a mature 57* off 42 deliveries, helping Delhi wrap up the win with 13 balls to spare. With this innings, he also etched his name in history, becoming the fastest player to reach 5000 IPL runs in just 130 innings—surpassing David Warner’s previous record of 135 innings.
However, the biggest talking point came after the match—not with the bat, but with body language. In a widely shared post-match moment, Sanjiv Goenka and his son Shashwat approached Rahul to congratulate him, but the Delhi batter cold-shouldered both.
