KIIT University will cover travel expenses for Nepali students returning home and arrange re-examinations for those missing tests.
After a Nepali student, Prakriti Lamsal allegedly died by suicide on February 16, the University initially asked all Nepali students to vacate the hostels.
Nepal’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Arzu Rana Deuba, had a telephone discussion with KIIT representatives. The university assured that it would cover the travel expenses of students who have reached Nepal and arrange re-examinations for those missing out on the tests.
University students protested demanding justice for Prakriti. Later, KIIT urged Nepali students to return to campus.
The University issued an apology and removed two female employees and two security guards from service for their conduct during the protests. KIIT set up a 24×7 helpline and a dedicated control room to support Nepali students.
Meanwhile, Police arrested Advik Srivastava, a fellow student, for allegedly harassing Prakriti, leading to her suicide.
Also, three employees and two security guards were arrested for objectionable behaviour during the protests and were later granted bail.
