In a resounding victory against organized crime, a special joint operation led by the Tangi, Banapur, Nachuni, and Balugaon police has successfully dismantled a notorious inter-district theft gang.
The massive crackdown on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of 12 individuals, bringing a much-needed sigh of relief to the residents of the Khordha and Nayagada districts.
The arrested individuals include 11 hardcore gang members and one local receiver who actively purchased the stolen goods. Following the raids, police successfully recovered a staggering haul of looted valuables, seizing approximately 500 grams of gold and 11 kilograms of silver ornaments from their possession.
Addressing the media in a press conference, Khordha Superintendent of Police (SP) Parmar Smit Parshottamdas revealed that this operation has resolved 15 previously unsolved theft cases. Thirteen of these cases were registered across Tangi, Nachuni, Banapur, and Balugaon in Khordha, while two were from the Chandpur police limits in the neighboring Nayagada district.
This breakthrough was the result of meticulous planning and coordinated intelligence. Following a sudden spike in regional burglaries, SP Parshottamdas ordered the formation of a dedicated task force. Operating under the direct supervision of Balugaon SDPO Sanjay Kumar Patnaik, the elite team comprised Nachuni IIC Vibhuti Bhushan Mohapatra, Tangi IIC Rabindra Kumar Bhujabal, Banapur IIC Jayaprakash Parida, and Balugaon IIC Shraddha Nayak.
Investigations revealed that the gang’s network was extensive, drawing members from multiple regions to execute their heists. The arrested burglars include Raju Pradhan, Tofan Sikari, and Bani Pradhan from Khordha; Jalandhar, Shiva, and Sagar Patra from Ganjam; and other criminal associates from Puri, Banapur, and Nachuni. Meanwhile, Prakash Sahu of Badapadar village was apprehended for acting as the syndicate’s primary receiver of stolen property.
The Khordha SP confirmed that the police will soon seek to take the accused on remand. Further intensive interrogation is expected to unearth more details about their operational network and potentially solve additional regional crimes.
