Leeza Majhi, a tribal student from Uchkapat village in Bamra block of Sambalpur district, has secured admission to the MBBS program at Government Medical College & Hospital, Sundargarh after clearing NEET 2025.

Her journey from a modest background to medical college stands as a beacon of hope for countless girls across rural Odisha.

Leeza, daughter of small farmer Shri Lalit Mohan Majhi and homemaker Smt. Padmini Majhi began her academic journey at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Bamra-IV in 2021. The residential school provided her with a safe and nurturing environment during her Class IX and X years. She later completed her matriculation from Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya, Bamra, with 82% and pursued +2 Science at OAV (Iconic), Bhubaneswar, scoring 81.6%.

Belonging to the Kisan (ST) community, Leeza overcame social and economic barriers through sheer perseverance and institutional support. Speaking about her achievement, she credited KGBV for its free residential education, mentoring, and holistic care that shaped her aspirations.

KGBVs, a flagship initiative of the Government of India, aim to provide quality education to out-of-school adolescent girls from disadvantaged communities. Odisha has been a frontrunner in implementing this mission, and Leeza’s success story exemplifies its transformative impact.

School authorities expressed pride, stating, “Leeza’s journey from the classroom of KGBV to the corridors of a medical college is a testament to the power of education. Her success will inspire many more girls to dream beyond limitations.”
