The Crime Branch has intensified its probe into the death of Soumyashree Bisi, a 20-year-old student of Fakir Mohan (FM) College in Balasore, by questioning key eyewitness Jyotiprakash Biswal, who is currently undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
A two-member Crime Branch team interrogated Jyotiprakash in the Plastic Surgery Department, where he is being treated for severe burn injuries sustained while trying to save Soumyashree during her self-immolation attempt.
Officials spoke with him for over an hour to reconstruct the events leading to the incident. They also consulted doctors to evaluate his condition. Jyotiprakash has suffered serious burns to his face, hands, and lungs, making his recovery critical.
Investigators view his testimony as crucial to understanding the sequence of events.
While his bravery has been widely lauded, the alleged delay in emergency medical response by authorities has drawn sharp criticism. His father, Sanatan Biswal, has urged the state government to provide financial and medical assistance to support his son’s recovery.
