Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has been named the team mentor for Delhi Capitals ahead of the upcoming 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
This appointment marks Pietersen’s first coaching role in the IPL since he last played in the league in 2016 for Rising Pune Supergiant.
Pietersen will join a robust support staff, including Hemang Badani as head coach, Matthew Mott as assistant coach, Munaf Patel as bowling coach, and Venugopal Rao as director of cricket. Pietersen’s extensive experience in the IPL includes playing for Delhi (formerly known as Daredevils) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he also captained both franchises in 17 games.
Delhi Capitals have made strategic additions to their batting lineup with the signings of K.L. Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Harry Brook, and Ashutosh Sharma. Additionally, they have retained Jake Fraser-McGurk and brought in pacer Mitchell Starc during the 2025 IPL auction.
The 2025 IPL season is set to begin on March 22, with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens. Delhi Capitals will kick off their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 24. Last season, the Capitals finished sixth, narrowly missing out on a playoff spot.
