Police have intensified their investigation into the triple murder in Odisha’s Keonjhar district, where three members of a family were found brutally killed in Nialijharana village under the Anandapur subdivision.
The victims have been identified as Jitendra, his wife, and their elder daughter. The incident, which occurred on Friday night, has caused widespread concern and distress among local residents.
Arrest and Detentions
In a significant development, Ghasipura police have arrested Lakshman, the brother of the deceased Jitendra, in connection with the case. Two other relatives—Baidyanath Soren and his son Sudam Soren—have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
Forensic Examination and Crime Scene Reconstruction
On Monday morning, a forensic team from Keonjhar visited the crime scene and conducted a detailed examination. Investigators collected multiple material clues and forensic evidence, which are now being analysed to establish the sequence of events.
After the forensic process, the bodies were sent to Anandapur hospital for post-mortem examinations. Following the autopsies, the bodies were handed over to family members for last rites.
Police officials stated that a crime scene reconstruction is likely to be carried out on Tuesday, based on preliminary findings and forensic inputs, to further strengthen the case.
Survivor Cites Land Dispute as Possible Motive
The younger daughter of the deceased, who survived the attack, has informed police that the incident may have been triggered by a land dispute. According to her statement, Baidyanath Soren and Sudam Soren visited their home after she returned from collecting firewood to discuss a land-related issue with her father.
She alleged that during the discussion, the accused attempted to attack her father. When her elder sister intervened, she was attacked first, followed by their mother and then their father.
Investigation Ongoing
Police officials have confirmed that all possible angles, including the alleged land dispute, are being thoroughly investigated. Authorities have assured that the case will be pursued with urgency and due diligence.
Further investigation is underway.
