In a significant push towards regional transformation, the Odisha government has announced massive development plans for Kendrapara district, with a proposed investment of ₹28,355 crore across key sectors including industry, tourism, and healthcare.
The announcement was made by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain during the Jambudweep Mahotsav held at Ramanagar in Mahakalpara block.
At the heart of this initiative is the upcoming steel plant by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) in Mahakalpara. The plant is expected to be a game-changer for the local economy, with the government focusing on infrastructure upgrades to turn Kendrapara into a national and global industrial hotspot.
“Without Kendrapara’s development, the progress of Odisha and India remains incomplete,” said Swain, stressing collaboration between MSMEs and large industries to foster a robust industrial ecosystem.
Tourism is also getting a major boost. The iconic 149-year-old Hukitola building on Jambu Island — nestled in lush mangroves and rich in maritime heritage — will undergo restoration. Plans are in place to connect the island with the 188-year-old False Point Lighthouse on Batighar via a new bridge over the Nasi River at Kharinashi, enhancing accessibility to one of India’s oldest lighthouses.
The government also revealed a master plan to upgrade the Maa Ramachandi temple in Ramanagar. The temple precinct will see enhanced roadways, a new boundary wall, and improved water facilities to attract more devotees and tourists.
In a move to strengthen healthcare, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced that Kendrapara will soon have its own medical college, significantly improving health infrastructure for the region.
These major announcements were made in the presence of Mahakalpara MLA Durga Prasan Nayak and ADM Nilu Mohapatra, marking a promising new chapter in Kendrapara’s
