The Karnataka High Court on Friday restrained the police from taking coercive action against KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) officials in connection with the June 4 Bengaluru stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which left 11 people dead and 56 injured.

The court order came after KSCA office bearers moved to quash the FIR filed against them. The FIR was lodged by the Cubbon Park Police, naming RCB, event firm DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt. Ltd., and KSCA, citing poor planning and misleading publicity.

Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita invoked include culpable homicide not amounting to murder, voluntarily causing hurt, and endangering life.

The FIR alleged that RCB’s social media posts falsely suggested free public entry, resulting in overcrowding and lack of security arrangements, triggering the deadly chaos.

The matter is part of a growing political and public backlash over safety failures during the IPL 2025 victory celebrations.
