President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War, as the nation observed Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday.

President Murmu, in a message on X, hailed the day as a symbol of extraordinary valour and determination of Indian troops. “Their dedication and supreme sacrifice will continue to inspire every citizen,” she said, concluding her post with “Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!”

Prime Minister Modi called the day a reminder of the “unparalleled courage and valour” of the soldiers who safeguarded the nation’s pride during the conflict. Defence Minister Singh lauded their “extraordinary courage, grit and determination in the toughest terrains,” affirming that the nation “shall remain forever indebted to their service.”

Congress President Kharge also extended greetings to the Armed Forces and martyrs’ families, stating, “The Indians bow in reverence and salute the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs who valiantly defended our motherland.”

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. The conflict culminated with Operation Vijay, which successfully ousted Pakistani troops from Indian territory in the Kargil sector of Ladakh.

Though initially denied by Pakistan, evidence—including recovered documents and later admissions—proved the involvement of the Pakistani Army and paramilitary forces, commanded by General Ashraf Rashid.
