The INDIA alliance formally nominated Justice (Retd.) B Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice President post.
The former Supreme Court judge filed his nomination papers today in the presence of senior Congress leaders, marking a moment of ideological assertion by the opposition bloc.
Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, accompanied Justice Reddy during the filing, alongside Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi. The trio’s presence underscored the alliance’s collective endorsement of Reddy’s candidature, which is being positioned as a principled counter to the NDA’s nominee.
Justice Reddy, known for his judicial integrity and progressive rulings, served as the first Lokayukta of Goa and has been vocal about constitutional values and social justice. His nomination is seen as a strategic move to foreground institutional credibility and legal acumen in the race for the country’s second-highest constitutional office.
The Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9, with the INDIA bloc framing the contest as a battle of ideologies rather than personalities.
