Jharsuguda police achieved a major breakthrough under Operation Netra by arresting a youth with a country-made pistol and live ammunition.
The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon when town police received a tip-off about a suspect roaming near Gauntiapada with an illegal firearm.
Acting swiftly, a patrol team rushed to the spot. On seeing the police vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee toward Buromal but was chased down and apprehended. The accused was identified as Ram Sonkar Singh alias Bittu, aged 21, from the Buromal area.
During the search, police recovered one country-made pistol, one live round, and a mobile phone from his possession. Officials registered Jharsuguda Town Police Case No. 214/2026 under Sections 25(1)(A)/29 of the Arms Act. The accused was produced in court the same day.
Police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the seized weapon and identify any network involved in the illegal arms trade. Authorities emphasised that strict action will continue against those dealing in unlawful firearms to ensure public safety.
