BJP has named Jay Dholakia, son of late BJD MLA Rajendra Dholakia, as its official candidate for the upcoming Nuapada Assembly by-election.
He will file his nomination on October 16, joined by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and senior party leaders.
Announcing the decision, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sujit Kumar said the party will organize a massive rally during the nomination event. More than 2,000 workers from Congress and BJD plan to join BJP that day, signaling a major political shift in the region.
Dholakia joined BJP on October 11, expressing his intent to contest from the seat once held by his father. BJP aims to secure a victory margin of over 50,000 votes in the November 11 bypoll.
The by-election follows the passing of sitting MLA Rajendra Dholakia on September 8. Congress has fielded tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi, while BJD has yet to announce its candidate.
CM Majhi will lead the rally in Nuapada, energizing the campaign and boosting local support. The party has begun mobilizing resources and coordinating logistics for the high-profile event. Security teams are preparing to manage the crowd and ensure smooth proceedings.
Dholakia’s entry has already sparked enthusiasm among BJP’s grassroots workers. His family legacy and local connect are expected to strengthen the party’s position. BJP is focusing on development and leadership to consolidate voter support.
As nomination day approaches, political observers are watching closely. The turnout and defections could reshape the electoral landscape in western Odisha.
