Dhaneswar Sethy, ward member of Ranpur Panchayat’s Ward No. 3 in Jajpur, returned safely after a week-long abduction.
Sethy went missing on October 1 while traveling to Binjharpur. His family filed a complaint at Binjharpur police station, alleging that unidentified men kidnapped him to prevent his vote in a no-confidence motion against the local sarpanch scheduled for October 8.
On October 8, abductors dropped Sethy near the police station. He appeared exhausted but unharmed. Police took him for medical examination and began investigating the incident.
Sources close to the case revealed that Sethy supported the motion against the sarpanch. His disappearance days before the vote triggered speculation about political interference. Officials postponed the motion due to his absence.
Investigators are analyzing call records and CCTV footage to identify the culprits. No arrests have been made yet. Police suspect political rivalry as the motive behind the ward member abduction in Jajpur.
The incident raised concerns about the safety of elected representatives in Odisha. Local leaders demanded stronger security measures and swift justice.
Ward member abduction in Jajpur highlights the growing tension in grassroots politics. Authorities continue their probe to uncover the full story and ensure accountability.
