In a significant setback for East Zone ahead of the Duleep Trophy 2025 opener, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been ruled out due to an injury sustained during his County Championship stint with Nottinghamshire.
Kishan’s absence has prompted a leadership change, with seasoned opener Abhimanyu Easwaran named captain for the upcoming match against Shubman Gill-led North Zone, starting August 28.
The team has also lost pacer Akash Deep, who has been advised to rest following his recent Test appearances against England. Assam’s Mukhtar Hussain replaces him, while Odisha’s Aashirwad Swain steps in for Kishan. Riyan Parag has been appointed vice-captain.
The revised East Zone squad includes a mix of emerging and experienced talent, with Mohammed Shami, Mukesh Kumar, and Kumar Kushagra among the key players.
This reshuffle adds intrigue to the tournament’s opening clash, as East Zone aims to overcome early setbacks and challenge North Zone’s formidable lineup.
