Ireland produced a dominant performance in Colombo, defeating Oman by 96 runs to keep their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign alive.
After a shaky start, Ireland’s batters exploded in the final overs, setting a massive target of 236.
Lorcan Tucker played a captain’s knock, scoring 91 runs, while George Dockrell hammered 35 off just nine balls, including three sixes in the final over. Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany also contributed crucial runs, helping Ireland recover from early setbacks.
Ireland’s innings gathered momentum in the last four overs, adding 86 runs to reach 235/5. Oman’s bowlers, led by Shakeel Ahmed, initially troubled Ireland with early wickets, but they failed to contain the middle and lower order.
Chasing 236, Oman started positively with Aamir Kaleem’s quickfire half-century off 28 balls. However, the chase collapsed under pressure. Miscommunication led to Hammad Mirza’s run-out, while Vinayak Shukla and Jatinder Singh fell cheaply. Ireland’s bowlers, including Barry McCarthy, Josh Little, and Matthew Humphreys, ripped through the batting order.
McCarthy claimed two wickets, Little struck twice in an over, and Humphreys added two more, sealing Oman’s fate. Despite Kaleem’s resistance, Oman folded for 139, handing Ireland a thumping 96-run victory.
