Bhadrak Police apprehended two individuals involved in a counterfeit currency operation spanning multiple states.
The racket came to light when law enforcement detained Manas Sahu, a youth caught using fake currency to purchase goods in Deulapal village. Following his arrest, police seized counterfeit notes worth ₹7,100.
Further interrogation revealed the mastermind behind the operation—Chandramani alias Chandan Bal, a notorious criminal from Jajpur district. Acting on this intelligence, police conducted a raid at Bal’s residence, resulting in his arrest and the seizure of fake currency amounting to ₹2.72 lakh.
Investigations uncovered Bal’s extensive criminal background, including previous arrests in Andhra Pradesh, Jajpur, and Balasore. Authorities suspect that he was orchestrating a widespread network of fake currency distribution, using advanced techniques to manipulate note resolutions.
Officials revealed that Bal exchanged ₹1 lakh worth of counterfeit notes for ₹20,000 in genuine currency. The police are continuing their probe to identify other members involved in the operation.
A press conference by Bhadrak Police detailed the crackdown, highlighting the severity of counterfeit currency crimes and their impact on the economy. The arrests mark a significant step in curbing illegal money circulation across Odisha and beyond.
