The Odisha Government extended the suspension of internet services in Malkangiri district for another 18 hours, until 12:00 PM on December 10, 2025.
Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, issued the notification after consultations with the RDC and the District Collector. Consequently, the government decided to prolong the restriction to stop the circulation of false, provocative, and inflammatory messages on social media platforms that could disturb public order.
The order specifically prohibits the use of WhatsApp, Facebook, X, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media platforms. Moreover, it restricts mobile internet, broadband, and data services of all providers.
However, the suspension does not affect government and essential services. Internet access continues for OSWAN (Odisha State Wide Area Network), NIC Net, NKN (National Knowledge Network), banking services, railways, and other government offices.
Authorities further warned that any violation of the order will face action under the relevant provisions of law. In addition, the directive has already been forwarded to all mobile and internet service providers for immediate compliance.
