The deceased child, whose father is an auto-rickshaw driver, reportedly died due to alleged medical negligence after being administered a wrong injection. The incident sparked widespread outrage, with members of the Smart Online Auto Association joining the grieving family in protest.
Auto drivers parked their vehicles along the stretch from Airport Square to Capital Hospital Square, blocking traffic and demanding justice. Tensions escalated when police attempted to disperse the protesters, leading to brief unrest in the area.
Health Director Amarendra Mohanty confirmed that a preliminary investigation has begun. A special committee will conduct a detailed inquiry, and the truth will be revealed following the post-mortem report.
Hospital authorities have denied negligence, stating the child was brought in critical condition and received all possible treatment. However, the incident has reignited concerns over healthcare standards in government hospitals, prompting calls for systemic reforms.
