The Government of India has ramped up its efforts to mitigate the impact of Avian Influenza on poultry and wildlife.

A three-pronged strategy focusing on biosecurity measures, surveillance, and vaccination is being implemented to safeguard livelihoods and ensure food security.

The government has approved the use of the H9N2 vaccine for low pathogenic strains and is conducting evaluations for potential Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza vaccinations. Meanwhile, the “detect and cull” policy continues to minimize disease spread, with compensations provided to farmers.

Collaborative efforts between government authorities, scientists, and the poultry industry underline the commitment to protecting rural livelihoods and biodiversity amidst this crisis.
