A viral video showing an Indian student being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by U.S. authorities at Newark Liberty International Airport has triggered widespread outrage and demands for accountability.
The footage, captured by Indian-American entrepreneur Kunal Jain, shows at least four officers forcibly restraining the student — with two officers kneeling on his back, and his hands and legs tied. The visibly distressed student can be heard crying and shouting in Hindi: “Main pagal nahi hoon, yeh mujhe pagal bana rahe hain” (I’m not mad; they’re trying to make me seem mad).
“He came chasing dreams, not causing harm,” Jain posted on X (formerly Twitter), calling the incident “a human tragedy” and urging the Indian Embassy to intervene.
In response, the Indian Consulate in New York acknowledged the social media reports and stated, “We are in touch with local authorities. The Consulate remains committed to the welfare of Indian nationals.”
The student’s identity and reasons for deportation remain unclear, but the video has intensified calls for transparency and humane treatment of Indian immigrants in the U.S.
