The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals currently in Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights, amid escalating protests and a rapidly evolving security situation.

The advisory, issued on January 14, follows an earlier alert released on January 5, and applies to students, pilgrims, businesspersons, tourists, and other Indian citizens present in Iran.

Embassy Urges Caution and Exit

“In view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport,” the embassy said in its statement.

The embassy reiterated that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise heightened caution, avoid areas witnessing protests or demonstrations, and closely monitor local media for updates.

Stay Connected With the Embassy

Indian nationals have been advised to remain in regular contact with the embassy and ensure that all travel and identification documents, including passports and visas, are readily accessible.

Those who have not yet registered with the embassy have been urged to do so via the MEA registration portal. In cases where internet access in Iran is disrupted, family members in India have been requested to complete the registration on their behalf.

Emergency Contact Details Shared

The Indian Embassy has shared emergency helpline numbers to provide assistance to citizens:

  • Emergency Mobile Numbers:
    +98 912 810 9115
    +98 912 810 9109
    +98 912 810 9102
    +98 993 217 9359

  • Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

Background

The advisory comes amid reports of widespread protests in Iran, with visuals circulating on social media showing unrest in parts of Tehran, including vehicles being set on fire in public areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as tensions continue to rise.

Indian authorities have said they are prepared to extend all necessary assistance to citizens affected by the developments.
