India kicked off the 30th Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with a powerful performance, clinching two gold medals on the opening day.
In the women’s 44kg–48kg category, Priteesmita Bhoi showcased exceptional strength and technique, lifting 63kg in snatch and 87kg in clean and jerk, totaling 150kg. Her performance not only earned her the top podium spot but also set the tone for India’s dominance in the championship.
In the men’s 56kg–60kg category, Dharamjyoti Dewghariya followed suit with a stellar lift of 97kg in snatch and 127kg in clean and jerk, finishing with a total of 224kg. His gold medal added to India’s growing tally and reinforced the country’s prowess in weightlifting.
The championship, hosted in Ahmedabad, is expected to see fierce competition across categories, but India’s early success has already energized fans and athletes alike.
