India’s women’s cricket team stamped their authority yet again over arch-rivals Pakistan with a commanding 88-run victory at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The win not only extended India’s flawless record to 12-0 against Pakistan in Women’s ODIs but also propelled them to the top of the World Cup points table.
Despite a shaky batting display, India posted 247, thanks to Harleen Deol’s steady 46 and Richa Ghosh’s explosive unbeaten 35 off 20 balls. Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Diana Baig and Fatima Sana, kept India in check early on, but the late surge gave India the edge.
Pakistan’s chase faltered early, with Muneeba Ali controversially run out and Sadaf Shamas dismissed cheaply. Sidra Amin’s valiant 81 gave Pakistan hope, but India’s disciplined bowling—especially from Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma—ensured a collapse. The match ended with Pakistan bowled out for 159 in 43 overs.
While India celebrated another win, concerns linger over their middle-order consistency and fielding lapses. With South Africa up next, Harmanpreet Kaur’s squad will look to tighten their game and keep the unbeaten run alive.
