India will host Afghanistan for a one-off Test and three ODIs in June, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Monday.
The Test match will take place at the PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10. Afterwards, the ODI series begins on June 14 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. The second ODI will be played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on June 17, while the final match is scheduled at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20.
This series follows the conclusion of the 2026 Indian Premier League. It also marks Afghanistan’s first bilateral series against India since their three-match T20I contest in January 2024. The last Test between the two sides occurred in June 2018, when Afghanistan made their debut in the format and lost by an innings and 262 runs in Bengaluru.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return to action in the ODI series. Both former captains now play exclusively in 50-over cricket after retiring from Tests and T20Is. India and Afghanistan have met four times in ODIs, with India winning three and one match ending in a tie during the 2018 Asia Cup.
Following the Afghanistan series, India will tour England for five T20Is and three ODIs starting July 1. The ODI leg begins on July 14.
Afghanistan will arrive under new head coach Richard Pybus, who previously coached Pakistan and Bangladesh. He replaced Jonathan Trott after Afghanistan’s early exit from the T20 World Cup. Pybus will join the team ahead of their white-ball series against Sri Lanka in the UAE next month.
