In a high-octane Group A encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India set a challenging target of 193/6 in their 20 overs against the Netherlands in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bat first on a pitch that favored aggressive stroke play, but it was the late fireworks from Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya that turned a middling innings into a formidable total.

India’s innings got off to a rocky start with opener Abhishek Sharma falling for a duck in the first over, bowled by Aryan Dutt. Fellow opener Ishan Kishan provided a brief spark, smashing 18 runs off just 7 balls with two fours and a six, before he too was bowled by Dutt. Tilak Varma steadied the ship with a composed 31 off 27 balls, including three fours and a six, but his dismissal at the hands of Logan van Beek left India at 69/3 after 8.6 overs.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav anchored the middle order with a solid 34 off 28 balls, featuring two fours and a six, but his departure in the 13th over – caught by substitute Timm van der Gugten off Kyle Klein – saw India slump to 110/4. That’s when the game shifted dramatically. Enter Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya, who forged a game-changing 76-run partnership off just 35 balls for the fifth wicket. Dube was the aggressor-in-chief, blasting 66 runs off 31 balls with four boundaries and six massive sixes, achieving a strike rate of 212.90. Pandya complemented him perfectly, scoring 30 off 21 balls with three sixes at a strike rate of 142.85.

The duo’s assault was particularly brutal in the death overs, where India plundered 75 runs in the last five overs at a run rate of 15.00. Dube reached his fifty off 25 balls, peppering the stands with towering hits, while Pandya’s consecutive sixes off Kyle Klein in the 18th over ignited the crowd. Dube eventually fell in the 19th over, caught at fine leg off van Beek, and Pandya was dismissed on the last ball of the innings, caught at long-off by Roelof van der Merwe. Rinku Singh chipped in with a quick unbeaten 6 off 3 balls, including a six, to push the total to 193/6.

For the Netherlands, Logan van Beek was the standout bowler, claiming 3/56 in four overs, including the key wickets of Dube and Pandya. Aryan Dutt impressed with 2/19, while Kyle Klein took 1/38.

The Dutch side, led by captain Scott Edwards, now faces a steep chase on a batting-friendly surface, but India’s spin-heavy attack – featuring Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, and Washington Sundar – could prove decisive.

This match marks India’s fourth in Group A, with the Men in Blue already showing strong form in the tournament.

As the innings break concludes, all eyes are on whether the Netherlands can pull off an upset or if India’s power-hitters have set an unassailable target. Stay tuned for live updates on the chase.
