India participated in the 64th Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD) at the UN Headquarters in New York, with Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Smt. Savitri Thakur, delivering the national statement.
Smt. Thakur emphasised India’s rights-based and whole-of-society approach, rooted in constitutional guarantees and aligned with the long-term vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. She highlighted the guiding principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Key Initiatives Highlighted
- Education parity between girls and boys, supported by improved infrastructure and residential schooling in remote areas.
- Expansion of basic services such as piped drinking water, clean cooking energy, and sanitation, benefiting women and vulnerable groups.
- Financial inclusion through millions of bank accounts, with women emerging as leading beneficiaries of entrepreneurship and credit schemes.
- Protection mechanisms for women and children via helplines and integrated service centres.
- Maternal and child health programmes reaching over 100 million beneficiaries.
- Social security schemes for the elderly, persons with disabilities, unorganised workers, and transgender persons.
India also underscored the role of digital public infrastructure and Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) in enhancing transparency and accountability in service delivery.
India stressed that global challenges require collective responses, reaffirming support for multilateral cooperation, capacity building, and South-South collaboration to accelerate progress on inclusive social development.
The session was chaired by Ambassador Khrystyna Hayovyshyn of Ukraine and witnessed participation from over 100 UN member states, with addresses by UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J Mohammed, UNGA President Annalena Baerbock, and other dignitaries.
