The Women’s Hockey Asia Cup 2025 kicks off in Gonshu, China, from September 5 to 14, featuring eight top Asian teams vying for a spot at the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup.
India, placed in Pool B alongside Japan, Thailand, and Singapore, is determined to bounce back after a tough Pro League season that saw them relegated.
Led by Salima Tete, the Indian squad faces a dual challenge: tightening a porous defense that conceded over 100 penalty corners and 43 goals in 16 matches, and finding attacking firepower in the absence of top scorer Deepika, who is sidelined due to injury.
India begins its campaign against Thailand on September 5, followed by matches against Japan and Singapore. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the Super 4s, with the final scheduled for September 14. The tournament will be streamed live on watch.hockey, although it won’t be broadcast in India.
With pride and qualification on the line, India’s performance in Gonshu could define its future on the global stage.
