Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined celebrations in Thimphu to mark the 70th birth anniversary of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan.
Shri Modi extended greetings to the Royal Family, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, and dignitaries gathered at the Changlimethang Celebration Ground.
Furthermore, Modi emphasised the deep spiritual and cultural ties between India and Bhutan. He described the relationship as one of values, emotions, peace, and progress. In addition, he invoked India’s ancient ideal of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam—the world is one family—and prayed for universal happiness through the mantra Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah.
Moreover, the Prime Minister praised Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness, noting its global influence as a measure of growth. He celebrated Bhutan’s extraordinary achievement as the world’s first carbon-negative country and highlighted its success in generating 100% of electricity from renewable sources. As a result, he remarked that Bhutan ranks among the leading nations in per-capita renewable energy generation and continues to expand this capacity.
At the same time, Modi acknowledged the Global Peace Prayer Festival held alongside the event, where saints from across the world united in prayers for peace. He shared that Vadnagar, his birthplace, and Varanasi, his workplace, both hold deep Buddhist significance, making the occasion personally meaningful.
Meanwhile, addressing the recent horrific incident in Delhi, Modi expressed grief and assured that agencies will uncover the conspiracy and bring the perpetrators to justice. Finally, he concluded by affirming that connectivity creates opportunity, and opportunity creates prosperity, envisioning a future of shared peace and progress for India and Bhutan.
In posts on X, Shri Modi said:
“The horrific blast in Delhi last evening has deeply pained everyone. India stands with those who have suffered.
I assure everyone that the agencies will get to the bottom of the entire conspiracy.
All those involved will be brought to justice.”
