India and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their commitment to finalising the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025.
During a high-level discussion, India’s Commerce & Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maroš Šefčovič, emphasised the strategic importance of a balanced and mutually beneficial trade partnership.
Monthly negotiating rounds will continue, with the next discussions scheduled for May 12-16, 2025, in New Delhi. India has stressed the need to address non-tariff barriers (NTBs) alongside tariff negotiations to create inclusive and proportionate regulatory frameworks that do not hinder trade.
The FTA aims to enhance market access, boost investment flows, and support digital transition. Both parties expressed optimism about the agreement serving as a transformative pillar in the broader India-EU strategic partnership.
As India strengthens its role as a global trade player, aligning with its 2047 development goals, this trade agreement is expected to diversify supply chains and foster innovation.
