Mumbai: In a major blow to team India, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, pacer Ishant Sharma, and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja all have been ruled out of the 2nd Test against New Zealand in Mumbai due to injuries.
The BCCI released an official statement, informing that Ishant had dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the 1st Test in Kanpur and thus, ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. The BCCI medical team will continue to monitor his progress.
“All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja suffered a right forearm injury during the 1st Test match and after undergoing scans, he was diagnosed with a swelling on his forearm. He has been advised rest and is thus ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai,” the statement read.
“Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain while fielding on the final day of the Kanpur Test. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI medical team,” it added.
Mohammed Siraj is likely to replace Ishant in the eleven. Jayant Yadav is another spin-bowling all-rounder who could get a game in place of Jadeja.
If India are battling injury concerns, New Zealand developed troubled of their own as it was announced that captain Kane Williamson will not be taking part in the Mumbai Test. Williamson has been ruled out due to a troubled elbow, which has bothered him for the most part of the year 2021.
