Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next three days due to two developing low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned.
One low-pressure area is currently active over the western Bay of Bengal, while another is expected to form over the central Bay of Bengal on Thursday. The IMD predicts widespread rain, with southern Odisha facing particularly intense showers, thunderstorms, and extremely heavy rainfall in some districts.

Yellow alert: Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and nine northern/coastal districts
Wind speeds may reach 30–40 km/h in several areas and 40–50 km/h at isolated locations. On September 27, the central Bay of Bengal system may intensify into a depression, causing severe rainfall in southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.
Manorama Mohanty, IMD Bhubaneswar director, said:
“Several places in Odisha are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall. One or two locations in Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Koraput may experience heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms in interior districts. Winds may reach up to 40 km/h in some areas.”
Authorities have urged residents to stay alert and take precautions as the state braces for stormy weather.
