The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall in 11 districts of southern Odisha and issued a yellow warning for the southern and coastal regions on Thursday.
The weather activity is linked to a well-marked low-pressure area that has formed over south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu. This system is expected to weaken and transition into a low-pressure area over the coming days.
Recent Weather Activity in Odisha
Earlier this month, the IMD had reported two low-pressure systems. The first system, which formed a few days ago, affected parts of Odisha. While forecasts predicted rainfall across interior, coastal, and northern regions, its actual impact was mild, and most areas experienced largely clear weather.
Despite this, southern Odisha is expected to see continued rainfall due to the current system.
Upcoming Systems and Rainfall Predictions
Meteorologists indicate that a second low-pressure system may form around October 26, potentially intensifying by October 26-27. This could develop a cyclonic circulation, resulting in rainfall across several districts of Odisha.
A third system is expected to form around October 29, but the IMD has not yet confirmed details about its intensity or impact.
Residents are advised to stay alert to local weather updates and exercise caution in areas likely to receive moderate rainfall.
