The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-alert warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall across several districts from June 9 to June 13, 2025.
According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha is intensifying weather conditions, leading to strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph in some regions. Districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Angul are placed under Orange Warning, indicating preparedness for extreme weather action.
Meanwhile, districts including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Khordha are under Yellow Warning, where thunderstorms with 40-50 kmph wind speeds are expected. Additional regions, including Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Puri, and Nuapada, will also experience moderate storms with gusty winds between 30-40 kmph.
Residents are advised to take precautions, remain indoors, and follow safety guidelines, including securing loose objects and avoiding travel during storm hours. Farmers are encouraged to protect crops from potential hail damage.
IMD warns that unstable weather conditions will persist over the next few days, with no significant changes expected in maximum temperatures.
