The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather alerts for multiple districts of Odisha over the next four days, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy to very heavy rainfall as the southwest monsoon continues its advancement across the state.
According to the IMD, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further into Odisha, Gujarat, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh over the next 48 hours. A trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over South Bangladesh and North Bay of Bengal to South Odisha is fueling the weather disturbance.
