The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that a cyclonic circulation has developed over the central parts of the Malacca Strait.
This circulation will likely trigger the formation of a low-pressure area on Saturday.
To begin with, IMD forecasts indicate that the low-pressure system will form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. It will then move west-northwest and intensify into a depression by November 24. As a result, Odisha is expected to receive rainfall over the next seven days, with coastal districts facing the most significant impact.
Furthermore, regional weather officials predicted that the depression would continue to move west-northwest and intensify further over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours. Consequently, Odisha is likely to experience widespread rainfall beginning on November 27.
However, the weather office has not yet confirmed whether the system will strengthen into a cyclonic storm. Instead, officials emphasised that continuous monitoring is underway and updates will be issued as the system evolves.
Meanwhile, the development has drawn attention across Odisha, as residents prepare for possible heavy rainfall. Authorities advised caution and urged people in coastal regions to stay alert for further advisories.
Finally, the IMD assured that it will provide timely updates to ensure preparedness and minimise risks associated with the evolving weather system.
