The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha beginning September 25, as a low-pressure area forms over the central Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD forecast:
- A low-pressure system is expected to form by September 25.
- It may intensify into a depression by September 26.
- The system is likely to cross South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh by September 27, bringing widespread rainfall.
⚠️ District-Wise Warnings:
- Orange Warning (Heavy to Very Heavy Rain): Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada
- Yellow Warning (Moderate to Heavy Rain): Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Balasore
The IMD has cautioned that districts under Orange and Yellow warnings may experience intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds ranging from 30–40 km/h.
Rainfall is also expected in coastal, western, and interior Odisha, with potential disruptions to transport and daily life. Authorities are on alert for waterlogging and flash floods.

Fisherfolk have been advised not to venture into the sea until September 28, due to rough conditions in the Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha coast.
